Welcome to the AARP

I'm trying to be okay with turning 30 soon, I really am.
But getting an AARP invitation in the mail yesterday didn't help. C'mon! I've still got about 70 years before I can retire - especially in this economy!
That being said, some time ago, I made a list of 30 things I wanted to do before I turned 30. As that day rapidly approaches and only God knows where that list is (they say the memory is the first thing to go), I realize that I probably won't publish my first novel, run a marathon, earn another degree, or visit Hawaii in the next 30 days. And I guess I can live with that.
But I have to say that my 20s were -and probably will be - one of my most life-changing decades. I graduated from college. I began my career. I fell in love and got married, and we bought a home, our own furniture, and grown-up stuff like a furnace and a roof and carpet. I traveled outside the U.S. several times. I gave birth to another human being. My family buried my uncle and all four of my grandparents. Each of my siblings were married. My parents moved away from my hometown. The myriad of monumental moments could go on for, well, a really long time.
And so, of course, I wonder what this decade will hold... and I look forward to more moments of laughter, of love, of time spent with family and friends. So - 30's not so bad, right?

Trust me, there is life after 30. I will turn 55 this year. And a lot has happened since my 20s. Married, five children. The oldest three have now left home. And so on. But I was going to ask: if you like reading Christian fantasy, could I suggest a title to try? I wrote "Outcasts Of Skagaray" because the Lord laid it on my heart to write it. For sample chapters, please go to www.threeswans.com.au. If you read it I would be delighted. But if not, all the best. You write an interesting blog. Mine is http://threeswans.blogspot.com if you feel like returning the visit.

Thirty isn't bad at all.

Actually, the 30's are better than the 20's.

i heard something reaches it's peak in the 30s:) that can't be bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm quite appalled too that you got that magazine...that's a bit much.

Wow, reading all the things that have happened in your 20s really are a big deal.

Look at all you've accomplished and learned. You are role model for everyone. At least for me! You're a beautiful writer! An artist who uses her words to paint a picture that brings so many to tears (happy or sad).
You're a wonderful mother!
A dedicated wife.
A delightful coworker---that's obvious when I meet people at Malone.
And no one could have better sisters than I do.
You two have taught me so much about life and always include me.
Not everyone has siblings like that.

This May,great things will happen. It will be your first official Mother's Day AND you will have a birthday. Oh yeah and well..you know..the fact that I'll give birth to another nephew for you isn't so bad either, right?:D

Don't be upset about turning 30. You know people won't think you're even NEAR 30 until you're 60:) Look at what great genes we came from:)
love,Lissa

LOL... Too funny! Maybe they thought you were feeling old enough to join the AARP, rather than your age. Ha, Ha! You sound like my wife when she turned 30. She really had a hard time with it... then she was fine when she turned 31. She just turned 40 at the end of April and loved it! (must be something weird with 30, however it didn't bother me turning that age....) Oh well, from what you have written about experiencing in the last decade this next decade has to be awesome for you!! If for any reason at all you have Michael and Dominic to enjoy everything with over this next decade and the one after that and after that and after that... get the picture? Just remember... age is only a number that helps you get discounts as it gets higher. Your true age is determined by how you feel... so keep making sure that you feel in your 20's and you will be fine!! (which believe me Dominic will help you with that one... I can tell you Ian (16) and Isaac (6) definitely help keep us young!! Tired too, but hey it is helping me stay young... LOL!)
